2014 has seen the completion at the Port of Dirhami of a new fishery centre – the first of its kind in Estonia – which has already launched operations as a fish-processing plant. Dirhami Kalatööstus is the creator, manufacturer and marketer of products in the Fish Gourmet range – a high-quality Estonian brand. It uses fish caught in the Baltic Sea as well as catches from Norway, all of which undergo strict quality control.

Fishermen’s Society
Dirhami Fishery Centre is also home to the office of the Dirhami Fishermen’s Society – the non-profit organisation behind the centre. The society also provides recreational and other facilities here for fishermen, and in the near future it plans to open an exhibition on coastal fishing.
The society is a member of the Lääne County Coastal Fishing Association, which aims to foster the development of coastal villages and coastal life in the region and to contribute to preserving and developing its maritime traditions.
In order to achieve these goals a number of activities have been launched: for example, information about fishing is distributed to a wider audience, and members take an active part in the development of improvement plans and legislation affecting fishery – championing the interests of Lääne County first and foremost.
